Roots of Yggdrasil is a unique fusion of a roguelike deck-builder and a city-building strategy game set in the aftermath of Ragnarok. This game allows you to acquire the role of Sunna, leader of a surviving Viking tribe caught in a perpetual time loop. Your mission is to explore the fractured remains of the World Tree and obtain enough power to reach Asgard. Unlike static city builders, this game forces you to move constantly to stay ahead of the Ginnungagap—an all-consuming dark fog. Every expedition allows you to unlock new building cards and artifacts, providing the ultimate test of your resource management and tactical planning.

The Gameplay Experience

The gameplay of Roots of Yggdrasil is a fast-paced race against time. It allows you to get away from the slow, endless expansion of traditional city builders and into a cycle of high-stakes missions.

• The Loop: Each run consists of several islands. You must obtain Yggdrasil seeds to power your flying longship before the dark fog swallows the map.

• Deck-Based Construction: You don't just build from a menu; you acquire building cards for your deck. You must strategically unlock and play cards like Houses, Barracks, and Saplings to generate the resources needed to progress.

• Tactical Placement: Positioning is everything. You must get your buildings placed in specific patterns to unlock bonuses or fulfill the requirements of the World Tree saplings.

• Permanent Progression: When a loop ends (by victory or the fog), you return to The Holt, your permanent hub. Here, you can obtain permanent upgrades, research new buildings, and strengthen your tribe's kinship for the next run.
